 | | Tree Harvesting By-Law Enforcement Procedure |
 |
The Haliburton County Forest Conservation By-Law was first passed in January of 1999.
Since the commencement of the program hundreds of harvesting operations have been conducted. These operations cover thousands of acres of forest.
The By-Law applies to logging operations occurring on private lands in the County of Haliburton (excluding trees cut for strictly personal use by the landowner). |
The landowner and logging contractor complete a Schedule B Permit Application (free of charge) and submits it to the County. Approved applications will be mailed back to the applicants with a Permit Letter outlining the conditions for the permit.
The logging contractor must also consult with the local municipality to ensure that any other necessary permits (e.g. entrance permits) are obtained.
Once all approved permits are in place, harvesting operations may begin. Visits and cut inspections may occur to ensure compliance with the By-law.
All tree cutting permits will be valid up to one year in length, expiring on March 31st annually. If there is a need to continue operations, a new permit application must be submitted.
The intent of the By-law is to promote "good forestry practices" and sustainable harvesting techniques, while respecting the rights of the landowners to choose more aggressive harvesting techniques known as "circumference limit harvesting".
The forest resources have been tremendously important to past and present generations in Haliburton County. Landowners who choose "good forestry practices" will have a positive impact on conservation and improving the forest health, water quality, game and fish, and recreational resources in the County.
It is all of our responsibility to ensure this resource remains for future generations to use and enjoy. | The documents below are now available regarding Forestry Conservation:
