April 15, 2026 messaging from Hydro One: With active flooding in parts of Ontario and rain forecasted to continue over the coming days, Hydro One is reminding customers that live in flood prone areas about the importance of preparing their homes, the steps to take to stay safe if flooding occurs and how to prepare for an extended emergency. Move water away from your home - Keep water away from your home by removing debris from gutters, eavestroughs and downspouts. If you have a sump pump, maintain it regularly so it’s ready if you need it and consider a backup power source, such as a battery or generator.
Stay safe - water and electricity do not mix - If flooding occurs at home and water starts to reach electrical outlets, baseboard heaters or furnace, call 1-800-434-1235 to have power safely turned off. Do not enter any flooded areas, such as the basement, until power is disconnected. When outdoors, stay away from ground level electrical equipment such as pad mount transformers.
Restock your emergency kit - It is critical to ensure you and your family are prepared in case of an emergency or extended power outage. Visit Emergency Preparedness | Hydro One to learn more about what to include in your kit. Hydro One will work on power outages in Haliburton County as well as throughout the province. To report an outage please contact 1-800-434-1235. You can also text ‘outage’ to 92887 (WATTS). To view outages and estimated restoration times (this map is updated every ten minutes) visit the following website or download the Hydro One Stormcentre app on your device: For your safety, please remember: • To turn off the stove or any elements that may have been in use when the power went out. • Stay at least 10m back from downed wires. Downed wires are live and dangerous. To report a downed wire, call 1-800-434-1235. Do not call 9-1-1 unless it is a life-threatening emergency. • If flooding occurs at home and water starts to reach electrical outlets, baseboard heaters or furnace, customers should call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235 to have power safely turned off. Do not enter any flooded areas, such as the basement, until power is disconnected. In addition, customers that have damage to their home’s electrical equipment (ex. stack/pipe where the powerline from the road connects to their home), need to have a licensed electrician make the necessary repairs. Customers can learn more about the steps to take through the Electrical Safety Authority. |

April 14, 2025 messaging from Haliburton Highlands OPP: HEAVY RAINFALL IMPACTING ROAD CONDITIONS ACROSS CENTRAL REGION (ORILLIA, ON) - As heavy rainfall continues across the region, the Central Region Headquarters of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding drivers that safety starts behind the wheel. Wet roads, reduced visibility, pooling water, localized flooding, and the potential for dense fog in some areas can make driving hazardous when conditions can change quickly. Significant rainfall is expected to persist over the coming days, increasing the risk of water collecting on roadways, washouts, debris, and sudden road closures. These conditions may develop rapidly and can be difficult to predict, particularly in rural areas. Before leaving home, drivers are encouraged to check current road conditions, closures, and travel advisories through 511on.ca and municipal511.ca, monitor localized weather forecasts through The Weather Network, and follow OPP Central Region social media channels for timely updates on active road closures. Police remind all road users to take the following precautions:
Flood conditions can develop quickly and may present serious dangers to motorists. Drivers are encouraged to choose alternate routes or delay travel when conditions worsen. Taking a few extra precautions can make all the difference. Plan ahead, stay alert, and stay safe. Anyone requiring emergency assistance is reminded to call 911. For non‑emergency incidents, the public may contact the Ontario Provincial Police non-emergency number at 1‑888‑310‑1122. Thank you for your support and patience! |
