Welcome to the first year of the Haliburton County Seniors Active Living Centre Program, or SALC! 

Through this program, adults (55+) and seniors (65+) are invited to get active, make friends, and be well! 

The SALC Program is designed to provide social, cultural, learning, and recreational opportunities for seniors to stay fit, healthy and socially connected in their communities.

SALC Programming is available in Haliburton County beginning in July 2025. The program is a collaboration between the County of Haliburton and local municipalities, the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, and multiple partners.

SALC programs take place at locations throughout Haliburton County.

Download the monthly activity calendar, or view it below. Find the activity calendar in print at our local libraries, Legions and municipal offices. Activities - both in-person and online - will be available throughout the year. Events and activities are available by "pay what you can" donation, unless otherwise noted.

July 2025 is the launch of SALC programming throughout Haliburton County!

Come out to something new - bring a friend or family member, a neighbour, or bring your own self and enjoy an activity alongside others.

Unless otherwise noted, activities and programs are pay-what-you-can (by donation) and all proceeds help support further SALC programming.

 The 2025 SALC highlights calendar : Painting Class at Wilberforce Legion at 10 a.m. on July 3 and 17; Drum Circle at Haliburton Legion at 1 p.m. on July 13; Learn to Disc Golf at 10 a.m. on July 15 at Abbey Gardens; Forest Bathing @ 10 a.m. on July 16 and board game drop-ins at Minden Legion, Haliburton Legion, Wilberforce Legion and Dorset Rec Centre.

Federal and Provincial Supports:

Member of Provincial Parliament Laurie Scott

Services include assistance with accessing provincial government services, such as Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), health and long-term care, consultation on matters of local interest, congratulatory messages/scrolls for significant milestones.

Health and Wellness:

Alzheimer Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland & Haliburton

Support for care partners and people living with dementia. Programs include Care Partner Support Groups in-person or virtually, social recreation programs, and virtual education sessions. Call 1-800-561-2588. 

Haliburton Highlands Health Services

Wellness and access to essential health services including primary care, hospital, long-term care and ultrasound. Call 705-457-2941.

Haliburton Highlands Health Services - Community Support Services

HHHS Community Support Services offer a wide range of health and support services to residents of Haliburton County to improve your wellbeing and quality of life. Services include: fitness classes, support groups, foot care, home help and maintenance, mental health programs, grief support, safety and security programs, Meals on Wheels, an adult day program, and medical transportation. Call 705-457-1392, extension 3243.

Haliburton Highlands Health Services - GAIN

The Haliburton County GAIN clinic provides Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments for frail seniors living at home, usually 65 years of age or older. GAIN team members include a behavioral support nurse, care coordinator, client services worker, community health worker, nurse practitioner, occupational therapist, office support, pharmacist, physiotherapist and social worker. Call 705-457-1392, extension 3400.

Haliburton County Community Paramedics 

Community Paramedics provide care in the community, including in-home assessments, preventative care, and chronic disease management. If you are concerned about a resident in this community who might require a wellness check due to lack of heat, lack of food, isolation or healthcare concerns (in an emergency call 911), please contact Community Paramedics at 705-457-3216.

Kawartha Lakes Haliburton Ontario Health Team  

Find services near you online by entering your home address to connect with local health service providers, or by calling the KLH-OHT Navigator at 705-934-1439. 

The Wellness Connections Program is designed for people aged 65+ to learn about healthy changes and choices to age well and connect to local service providers offering supportive programs. Call 705-934-1439.

Safety and Well-Being:

Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario 

EAPO is the provincial organization leading elder abuse prevention in Ontario. Visit their site for webinars, podcasts, training tools and more information. Call 1-833-916-6728 for more information. 

Emergency and Health Services

Haliburton Highlands OPP

The local detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is located in Minden. To contact their non-emergency line, call 1-800-310-1122. 

Haliburton Highlands Resource Card (sponsored by the HSJCC)

The Haliburton Highlands Resource Card lists phone numbers for local services and organizations, and can be stuck to the fridge, or folded into a wallet-sized card.  

Haliburton, Kawartha, Northumberland, Peterborough Health Unit

The HKNP Health Unit provides public health programs and services to residents in the County of Haliburton, including immunization clinics, sexual health clinics, mental health supports and water quality and testing. Call 1-866-888-4577.

Local Senior Groups:

Aging Together as Community

The ATAC, a community-focused group centered around rural Ontario living, hosts programs focused on aging with dignity, including social events like coffee houses, language cafes and LGBTQ+ and Allies drop-ins, a regular radio show on CanoeFM, and information seminars with multiple guest speakers and social opportunities. 

CARP, Chapter 54

A group of volunteers committed to local advocacy on issues important to members and in support of CARP's mission to improve the lives of Canadians as we age.

Central Food Network

Central Food Network operates the food banks in Wilberforce and Cardiff, plus Heat Bank Haliburton County. Contact CFN for support with food, heat, hydro and income tax filing at 705-448-9711.

Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)

Contact CMHA for help with mental health concerns for yourself or someone else. Programs include counselling, mental health and support groups, family supports, and a mobile wellness clinic. Call 1-800-875-6213.

Community Legal Clinic

The Simcoe, Haliburton and Kawartha Lakes Community Legal Clinic provides free legal services for income support program cases, housing law and tenant rights, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board claims, employment insurance, human rights, consumer law, debtor/creditor issues and small claims court for persons with low income. Call 1-800-461-8953, extension 0.

Community Living Trent Highlands

Provides services to people with developmental challenges, with their families, to achieve their unique personal goals. Services include respite, supported independent living, day programs and community homes. Call 705-457-2626.

Driver Exams (Seniors)

Once you turn 80, you need to renew your driver's licence every two years. Call 1-888-387-3445. 

Fuel for Warmth 

Fuel for Warmth provides emergency assistance with propane, oil, wood pellets and firewood for people who are having a heating crisis. Call 705-854-9208. 

Heat Bank Haliburton 

Heat Bank Haliburton offers small grants to overcome emergencies concerning hydro, propane or furnace oil and keeps stock piles of firewood ready throughout Haliburton County. Call 705-306-0565.

John Howard Society of Kawartha Lakes & Haliburton

The JHS works to reduce the risks of crime and its' causes by providing support to individuals, community members and families in need of counselling and supports. Programs include literacy and basic skills; anger management, and crisis and harm reduction programs. Call 705-328-0472.

Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre

Call 24-7 for crisis support, advocacy and accompaniment, individual and group counselling, workshops and prevention education at 1-866-298-7778.  

Minden Community Food Centre

Contact the Minden Community Food Centre for regular or seasonal food supports, information about the community garden, or to volunteer. 705-286-6838. 

YWCA Peterborough Haliburton 

Safe shelter, resources and support is available to help women safely escape gender-based violence. The Women's Centre of Haliburton County can be reached at 705-286-1942. For crisis support, call 1-800-461-7656 24/7 (call 911 if the threat of danger is immediate).
