County of Haliburton implements All-Way Stop in Eagle Lake to improve safety
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 22, 2025
Haliburton, ON – In response to safety concerns and rising traffic incidents, the County of Haliburton is installing an all-way stop control at the intersection of County Road 14 (Haliburton Lake Road) and County Road 6 (Eagle Lake Road) in the Municipality of Dysart et al. The installation for this new All-Way stop is scheduled for Thursday, October 23.
What’s changing?
- Two new stop signs will be installed on CR 14 (both directions).
- The existing stop signs on CR 6 will remain in place.
- “ALL-WAY” tabs will be added beneath all four stop signs.
- Advisory “Stop Ahead” signs with “NEW” tabs will be placed on CR 14 to alert drivers of the new traffic pattern.
Why the change?
A recent investigation by Public Works found that drivers on County Road 6 face severely restricted sightlines when entering or crossing County Road 14. Contributing factors include a rock cut on the northeast corner of the intersection and a horizontal curve on CR 14, in addition to a nearby building obstructing westbound visibility. Moreover, the intersection has experienced right-angle and turning collisions—patterns consistent with inadequate sight distance and two-way stop conditions. Traffic volumes in the Eagle Lake area have also been growing.
“The conversion to an all-way stop at this location brings the intersection into alignment with Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) standards and will improve driver awareness, reduce confusion and lower the risk of collisions,” said Sylvin Cloutier, Director of Public Works.
The County urges all drivers to take note of the new traffic arrangement, obey the stop signs in all directions, and drive with caution as they adjust to the changed intersection control.
