Official Plan
The County of Haliburton’s Official Plan outlines policies for land use in our community. It’s prepared with input from public agencies and individuals, the Council for the County of Haliburton, and each of the local Councils for the townships and municipalities within our county.
What is the purpose of an Official Plan?
An Official Plan sets the framework for land use planning in the community, including:
- Where new residential, commercial, industrial, and recreational uses will go;
- What services like roads, water mains, sewers, parks, and schools will be needed;
- When, and in what order, parts of the community will grow;
- Community improvements.
The County of Haliburton’s Official Plan
Our Official Plan does the following:
- Outlines general land use planning policies for the County;
- Makes sure growth and development needs are met and co-ordinated between us and the local municipalities;
- Clearly identifies how lands and resources are to be used today and in the future;
- Provides a framework for regulations and standards for local Official Plans, Zoning By-laws and other planning documents;
- Identifies Council’s commitment to the future of our County and each of our communities
