Winter means snowplowing, salting and sanding. The County has agreements with the local municipalities for winter maintenance on some county roads, listed below. County staff maintain all other county roads.
- Algonquin Highlands maintains county road 8, 11, 12, 13 and 39.
- Dysart et al maintains county road 19.
- Highlands East maintains county road 5, 9, 15 and 48.
- Minden Hills maintains county road 2 and 20.
Be safe around plows
Use caution when driving near snowplows. Stay back when following a working snowplow with flashing blue lights. It is dangerous to pass a working snowplow. Sight lines are reduced from the blowing snow coming from the plow. Be patient. We are trying to make the roads safer for everyone.
Help us keep roads clear
You can help with winter operations by keeping the following in mind:
- Do not push or blow snow onto the traveled roadway. This can be very dangerous for traffic and is in contravention of the Highway Traffic Act.
- Do not park on the road or shoulder of any county road. This impedes snow plowing, salting and sanding and your vehicle could be towed.
