Forestry

The County's Forestry By-law 3196, as amended, has been in effect since March 26, 2008. This by-law applies to logging operations occurring on private lands but excludes trees selectively cut for strictly personal use by the landowner.

Application

The landowner and logging contractor complete a Schedule B Permit Application (free of charge) and submits it to the County. Approved applications will be mailed back to the applicants with a Permit Letter outlining the conditions for the permit.

A copy of the permit application can be found here on pages 5 and 6 of the by-law.

Other applications

The logging contractor must also consult with the local municipality to ensure that any other necessary permits (e.g. entrance permits) are obtained.

Inspections

Once all approved permits are in place, harvesting operations may begin. Visits and cut inspections may occur to ensure compliance with the By-law.

History

The first Haliburton County Forest Conservation By-Law was first passed in January of 1999. Since the commencement of the program hundreds of harvesting operations have been conducted covering thousands of acres of forest.
