Looking for transportation options in Haliburton County?

The County of Haliburton has a number of transportation options available, to service a variety of needs. Many programs in the community can work with you to overcome transportation barriers. If you are looking for mental health supports, victim's services, counselling, parenting groups, or social services, it's worth calling to talk about options.

  • Bancroft Community Transit runs a weekly bus between Wilberforce, Cardiff, and Bancroft, and around the towns of Bancroft and Wilberforce. They also may be able to provide volunteer drives for other appointments for families, youth, and adults living in the Highlands East area.

  • Hyland Taxi services all of Haliburton County. They have fully accessible taxis available too.

You can also use your own networks to connect with others. Try posting in social media groups, if you feel comfortable, or talking with neighbours along your road. If you are looking for transportation to an event, call the people organizing to see if they can connect you with others in your area who might be able to offer a ride.

There is a bulletin board at the Haliburton School of Arts and Design for ride-sharing and the local taxi company, Hyland Taxi, will try to arrange for shared taxis when they can.

If you are looking for work, Fleming CREW Employment Services is a great resource. Speak with your Employment Counsellor about what transportation supports might be available.

You may be eligible for employment supports to help get you to work if you are receiving social assistance (Ontario Works of ODSP). Speak with your caseworker to learn more. If you have a disability, you may still be eligible for employment benefits from ODSP even if you don't qualify for income supports. Call ODSP to find out more.

It's worth talking to your employer or potential employer about support with transportation. They might be willing to be flexible with shift times or help establish a ride-share program with other employees.

Haliburton Highlands Health Services Community Support Services offers several transportation services for medical travel for seniors and adults with disabilities. Please call at least 72 hours in advance.

Haliburton Highlands Health Services Community Support Services offers transportation services throughout the County for seniors (age 55 plus) and adults with disabilities. Out of town travel for medical appointments can often be arranged. Call at least 72 business hours ahead of time.

Some transportation assistance may be available if you need to attend an appointment in order to keep your housing or if you need transportation in order to access shelter.

Victim Services may help with transportation for victims of crime, to attend immediate, short-term counselling services. Transportation support may also be available for a family member to identify a victim of homicide, or to support a victim who has suffered serious injury.
